Happy New Year Grace! I said it on Sunday and I mean it. I love a new year. But it’s very easy to get so caught up in new ideas or adventures that we forget to celebrate what has already happened. I want to take a moment to share with you something big that happened as we turned the calendar over to 2019.
As many of you know, as a church we struggled financially through most of 2018. It was banner year for much of ministry, but for whatever reason our giving numbers were just not great. You might remember that at the end of November we were still $78,000 away from our giving goal. We had yet to pay our teaching pastors salary for the second half the year, and none of the missionaries we committed to support had received their money. This meant that we had to announce at our annual meeting that we were in the process of opening a line of credit to make up the difference.
That all changed in the last six weeks or so. As we prayed together about our financial need, God answered in a big way. In the last 7 weeks of 2018, you, the people of Grace, gave $83,129. That makes December of 2018 our record giving month, and means that we finished last $2,968.
Trials of any kind, financial or otherwise, are hard to face. But by God’s grace, we believe that this church is stronger for having walked through this wilderness time in 2018. We learned to lean on Him instead of taking provision for granted, our leadership got the opportunity to ask some hard questions, and every family member at Grace had the chance to be a part of the answer by giving sacrificially.
As we look forward to 2019, I’m really excited to see where God takes this church. I believe that God will use us mightily, if we keep Him at the center of all we do. Thanks for being Grace Church!
